Ways of dying

Have you ever wondered why we die? Or why can we resurrect?

We die because our life points drop to 0 and we resurrect because a blizzard employee pointed out one priest in angel form for each zone in the game (sometimes more than one) and condemned them to resurrect all the dead chars by giving them 1 point of life and a ghost form so they could go back to their corpses. These are the so called resurrection angels, which interface is limited to a list of the dead chars and a single button to resurrect them...

But friends, dying is an art. After my walks over this world I've discovered there are many ways to die:


1.- Natural death

This is the most common of all. It usually (though not always) happens when your heart stops, your brains get out of your head or any mob puts your life to 0 and puts any pointy weapon through you. ie:

Skettis Guard hits you for 583
Skettis Guard hits you for 1592
Your sinister strike hits Skettis Guard for 637
Skettis Guard calls his pet
Skettis Guard's pet pull your eyes out of your face
Skettis Guard puts his spear inside you and puts you over a fire as if you were a pig

2.- One-hit death

It's similar to the number 1 but usually caused by elite mobs, which, due to the seize of their weapons aren't able tu put it through you and what they do is turn you to a stamp.ie:

Gruul hits you for 34583

3.- Post-combat death

Already detailed in some post, is when you die after your opponent dies (if you manage to kill him) and you still have a DoT or maybe it drops some AoE after it dies and you don't have time to evade it. It's usually caused by warlocks.ie:

Warlock casts Corruption on Arda
Your sinister strike hits Warlock for 1534
Warlock casts Death coil on Arda
Mortal Poison hits Warlock for 353
Warlock dies
Death coil hits you for 420
Death coil hits you for 420

Are you dead yet or you want another tick?

4.- Test death

This one happens when you are very bored and/or you don't have nothing better to do and you start wondering things like:

How much will I get hurt if I go up to the top with my gryphon and I fall to the lowest plain...?
And how much if I fall from SSC lift...?
Will I die if I jump down from the Aldor zone in Shattrath...?
Will I be able to kill by myself an elite for a mision tagged for 5 people...?
If I jump from up here I'm sure I will reach the lake...

5.- Clumsy death

It happens in the same cases than the preceding point but, with the difference that you don't do it out of boredom but for your profound clumsyness or walking too near the edge of the platform.

7.- Lag death

It happens when you have a retarded conexion and you se the game at 3fps, causing you to watch the first 3 seconds of combat and then staying there on your feet looking threatening to your opponent, killing yourselves with your looks about 20 seconds, after which you appear in the floor with your opponent's spear sticked through some part of your body.

8.- Disconnection death

Similar to the Lag death, but this time you are in combat with any mob and suddenly you get a message in your screen:

Disconnected from server
Log in again

The first thing you see as you enter the world is the resurrection angel.


But all these deaths have something in common. The end. All of them finish with a definitory sentence:

You are dead
